One day after acquiring a big upgrade at the backup quarterback position, the Giants have waived the player who held it ever so briefly this preseason.
Rhett Bomar, elevated to second on the depth chart when Jim Sorgi was placed on injured reserve on August 31, fell back to third when Sage Rosenfels was added via trade on September 3. On September 4, Bomar is out of a job altogether.
Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger had the news first.
Bomar has NFL-caliber physical tools, but accuracy has never been his strong suit. The Giants will probably hope to develop that part of Bomar’s game on the practice squad.
Our guess? He makes it through waivers unscathed.
UPDATE: Garafolo passes along two more Giants cuts to add to the lengthening list. They are fullback Jerome Johnson and offensive lineman Jacob Bender.
