Golden Tate has a broken hand

Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate is missing OTA practices due to a hand injury, the extent of which coach Pete Carroll has not revealed.

According to ESPN.com’s Mike Sando, the injury is a fractured hand.

After a slow beginning to his career, Tate came on down the stretch last season with 19 receptions in the final five games. Sando says the Seahawks have “high expectations” for Tate entering his third NFL season. Obviously, he can’t fulfill them when he’s injured.

Tate figures to be healthy by the start of training camp, assuming his recovery goes smoothly. He’s the tentative favorite to open the season as Seattle’s No. 2 wideout, opposite Sidney Rice.

Rice is also missing OTAs due to offseason surgery on both shoulders.
