Goodell’s assemblyman cousin calls daily fantasy “clearly gambling”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has said that fantasy football isn’t about wagering, and that daily fantasy isn’t really gambling because it’s not about the outcome of games.

The second-most prominent member of the Goodell family thinks differently.

Andy Goodell, Roger’s cousin, is a New York State assemblyman. The New York legislature is currently debating the legality of daily fantasy, and Goodell has made clear that as he sees it, daily fantasy is, in fact, gambling.

“In my mind, it’s clearly gambling. It’s sports gambling,” Andy Goodell said, via sports attorney Daniel Wallach.

Roger Goodell has contributed thousands to his cousin’s campaign coffers. It remains to be seen if Roger continues to support Andy after today’s comments.
