HAYES’ FAMILY FEUD SIMMERING DOWN

The confusing and ugly family feud involving late Hall of Fame Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Bob Hayes’ surviving relatives and his disputed half-sister has apparently been resolved, according to the Dallas Morning News. Four Hayes family members, including Lucille Hester, whose claim to be Hayes’ biological half-sister have been questioned as well as the reported illegitimacy of the poignant letter she read at Hayes’ Hall of Fame selection at the Super Bowl, sat next to each other at a Hall of Fame press conference in Hawaii on Friday. And -- surprise, surprise -- there were no arguments or further acrimony during an hour-long gab-fest at the Hilton Hawaii Village. “At this point right now, the family is just trying to come together and celebrate my father’s induction,” said Hayes’ son, Bob Hayes Jr. “There’s been a lot of negativity and drama in the press. So we want to just do the best we can and focus more on his induction at Canton. “I have no hate in my heart for anybody in the entire world. People make mistakes. People might make mistakes and pretend they’re something they’re not, but it’s just a mistake. I talk to her [Hester] sometimes.” Hester, who didn’t sit next to Bob Hayes Jr., seconded that notion in replying to a question about how she’s getting along with Bob Hayes Jr. and other family members. “Absolutely fantastic,” Hester said. “Family ties.” Despite the fact that the Hayes family has decided to make nice, at least publicly, it doesn’t answer lingering questions about the letter, which typeface experts debunked this week. Plus, Hayes family members have called upon Hester to provide official documentation that Hester is Hayes’ half-sister. The NFL and the Hall of Fame have remained mum on this controversial topic publicly.
