Heckert to interview for G.M. job in Cleveland

Mike Holmgren’s introductory press conference doesn’t start for an hour, but he’s already started serious work in Cleveland.

Eagles G.M. Tom Heckert will arrive in Cleveland Tuesday to interview for Cleveland’s G.M. position, according to Jason LaCanfora of NFL Network, Jay Glazer of Fox, and Adam Schefter of ESPN. (We don’t know who had it first, and don’t need to.)

The news shouldn’t be a surprise. Heckert and Holmgren share an agent,

Bob LaMonte, who likes to pair his clients. Heckert has worked in the Andy Reid branch of the Holmgren tree for the last eight seasons and knows the West Coast offense.

It’s also not a shocker that Heckert is looking to move on. He has interviewed for G.M. positions in the past and

Eagles vice president of player personnel Howie Roseman has built more influence in Philadelphia. He’s the logical replacement for Heckert.

If Heckert does get the job in Cleveland, it’s harder than ever to imagine Eric Mangini sticking as coach.

West Coast offense czar + West Coast offense G.M. would not seem to equal Mangini, winning streak or not.
