The Titans can use veteran assistant coach Dick LeBeau only for his Xs and Os, and be better off.

But the longtime Steelers assistant might also help them land some of the Jimmies and the Joes they need as well.

Via Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean, the Titans could well tap into LeBeau’s old Steelers network for some of the defensive help they need this offseason.

Free agent cornerback Ike Taylor said he’d happily follow LeBeau from Pittsburgh to Nashville, and thinks others will too.

Coach LeBeau recruits himself. He is like Coach K; you know what you are getting yourself into,’’ Taylor said, marking perhaps our first reference here to Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski. “You don’t have to ask the veteran guys who have played under him. Just say Coach LeBeau wants you to come, and they’d say: “What time? That’s the way people feel about him.”

Taylor’s not the only option the Titans might consider. Fellow free agent James Harrison said last week he’s not retiring. The Steelers also seem unsure about their ability to hang onto outside linebacker Jason Worilds, who would be a more expensive purchase.

“If the money is right in Tennessee, yeah, I could see it,’’ Taylor said about his teammates set to become free agents. “The money doesn’t have to be spectacular, but if the money is right, I can tell you they are willing to go where Coach LeBeau is. … There is just a genuine, mutual respect that I have for that man, and other guys have it, too.

“I would come to Tennessee, but only because of Coach LeBeau.”

You can practically hear the Nashville Chamber of Commerce printing that for a billboard, but after the season the Titans just went through, they ought to take whatever they can get.
