It’s been six weeks since JPP had finger amputated

When Jason Pierre-Paul had his right finger amputated and right thumb fractures operated on in July, there were multiple reports that it would take him six weeks to heal.

Wednesday marks six weeks to the day of the surgery and the situation doesn’t look too much different than it did then. Pierre-Paul and the Giants have spoken, something that wasn’t the case immediately after his fireworks accident, but Pierre-Paul hasn’t signed his franchise tag while he continues rehabbing in Florida.

Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports that will continue to be the case until Pierre-Paul believes he’s close to playing, a point at which he’d likely be able to pass a physical that would eliminate the possibility of landing on (and not being paid while on) the non-football injury list. Graziano adds that his recovery is a “slow process” that illustrates that “healing” from the surgery is just one of the steps that Pierre-Paul has to take before he’ll be ready to play football again.

All of which means that the Giants will have to continue making plans for the season that don’t include Pierre-Paul on the defensive line and that talk of the defensive end’s plans to return “sooner” than people think may amount to little more than wishful thinking.
