With Kyler Murray previously winning the starting quarterback job in Minnesota, J.J. McCarthy is trying to hold on to the QB2 role.
McCarthy got the start and played the full first quarter against Baltimore on Saturday. He completed five of 10 passes for 81 yards.
The 2024 first-round pick had two glaring misfires. He missed receiver Myles Price on the sideline on the first snap of the game. Later, McCarthy missed Price on a short throw at the front of the end zone.
Along the way, McCarthy was sacked once and hit multiple times. The Ravens broadcast indicated that he was “wincing” on the sidelines after his final drive.
Carson Wentz entered the game in the second quarter. Coach Kevin O’Connell has left the door open for Wentz to potentially leapfrog McCarthy.
