Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has played the last few games with a cast on his left hand, making it harder to be his usually dominant self. That could change on Sunday against the Jaguars.
Watt shed the cast for practice on Friday, and he could play without it.
“I’ve said it over the last few weeks – you have to have a club on that hand, it’s tough for defensive linemen when they can’t have full use of their hand,” coach Bill O’Brien told reporters on Friday. “I think we’re trying that out. Whether that is what he’ll wear on Sunday, not sure yet, but he tried it out in practice and that’s what we’re looking at.”
Watt, who has 14.5 sacks on the season, went three games without one before notching his latest on Sunday against the Titans. Whether or not Watt wears the cast on Sunday, the best news for the Texans is that he’s moving toward being able to play without the cast in the postseason.
