Jaguars G.M. indicates lockout could help bring Kirk Morrison back
Middle linebacker Kirk Morrison’s first year in Jacksonville received mostly mixed reviews, with him taking some time to adjust to Jacksonville’s scheme.
The former Raiders player will be a free agent when the lockout ends, but it sounds like his most likely destination in 2011 will be Jacksoville. Jaguars.com John Oesher writes that the team told Morrison to stay in close contact with the team when he tests free agency, with the idea that he may return.
“What happens with this unique year we’re in is there’s a short window to go somewhere else and learn a new system and get evaluated and have a chance to compete and make a roster,” G.M. Gene Smith told Oesher. “To him, it might be in his best interest to stay here.”
We anticipate that the lockout will have a similar affect around the league. Teams will want to retain players that might otherwise let go because continuity will be a bigger asset in a shortened offseason.
