The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Monday that they have signed seventh-round pick Jeris Pendleton to a four-year rookie deal.
Pendleton is a defensive tackle out of Division II Ashland.
At 6-foot-2, 328, Pendlenton projects as a fire-hydrant nose tackle in Jacksonville’s 4-3 scheme. He was athletic enough to play linebacker and tight end in high school, before walking on at a junior college in 2008. Pendleton will turn 28 years old in November, so the Jaguars will likely be looking for an immediate impact despite his unheralded background.
In training camp, Pendleton will battle D’Anthony Smith for a reserve spot behind starters Tyson Alualu and Terrance Knighton. C.J. Mosley is penciled in as the Jaguars’ No. 3 defensive tackle.
