Jahvid Best heads to PUP list as Lions drop to 74 players

The Lions made a move that we’ve been anticipating for a while when they placed running back Jahvid Best on the physically-unable-to-perform list on Monday.

Best has not played or practiced since suffering a concussion in Week Six last season and still awaits medical clearance to resume his football career even though Best says he’s been symptom-free for nine months. This move gives him until after the Lions’ game against the Bears on Oct. 22 to get cleared because he won’t be eligible to practice or play until then.

In addition to the previously reported cuts, the Lions also placed cornerback Chris Greenwood on the PUP list and placed offensive linemen Jonathan Scott and Bill Nagy on injured reserve. Nagy was claimed from the Cowboys with the knowledge that ankle surgery would keep him off the field this season.

The Lions also released wide receiver Dominique Curry and wide receiver Isaac Madison, leaving them with 74 players. That gives them space for cornerback Kevin Barnes, who is reportedly on his way to the Lions after a trade with the Redskins.
