The big headline for Jaguars rookie cornerback Jalen Ramsey’s week is that he has a small meniscus tear in his right knee that doctors will take another look at this week to determine how long he’ll be out of the lineup.
After losing defensive end Dante Fowler to a torn ACL last season, the news of another knee injury for a first-round pick hasn’t made for many smiles around Jacksonville. Not all the news for Ramsey this week is negative, though.
The Jaguars announced Sunday that Ramsey has signed his first NFL contract, which runs four years and includes the standard team option for a fifth year that accompanies deals for all first-round picks.
With that bit of housekeeping done, the team will now wait to find out the timetable for Ramsey’s recovery. The hope now, per Adam Schefter of ESPN, is that he’ll be able to return to the field in time for the season opener, although that could obviously change after further medical examination.
Third-round defensive end Yannick Ngakoue is the only unsigned member of the Jaguars’ 2016 draft class.
