Super Bowl XLIII featured a pair of memorable touchdowns at the end of each half. One came on a 100-interception return as the second quarter expired. The other came near the end of regulation in the corner of an end zone at Raymond James Stadium.
The two players responsible for those scores no longer play for the Steelers. But they apparently want to return.
Cornerback Ike Taylor said recent on his TribLive Radio show that linebacker James Harrison and receiver Santonio Holmes would like to rejoin the team.
“It’s for sure the both of them want to come back,” Taylor said. “I’ve talked to both of them.”
Harrison spent 2013 with the Bengals. Holmes was traded to the Jets in 2010 while facing a four-game suspension for violating the substance-abuse policy.
"[Harrison] still wants to play football, and of course his first option would be Pittsburgh,” Taylor said. “He came over to my house, and when he shook my hand, his hand felt like a brick. I told [him] he can’t shake my hand like that anymore. He’s probably in the best shape of his life. Right now he looks like the Hulk. He’s been banged up, and he feels he has something to prove.”
The Steelers have a need at receiver, with Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders, and Jerricho Cotchery all leaving via free agency in the last 15 months. With no one else pouncing on the players, the Steelers apparently could have them if they want them. Cheap.
