The Giants got run over in Atlanta last weekend, dropping them from the lead in the NFC East and touching off a lot of discussion about the way they rallied back from a bad Week 15 loss last year to win the Super Bowl.
Some Giants players said that experience stopped them from worrying too much about the loss to the Falcons because they’ve seen the team respond with their backs against the wall in the past. That doesn’t sit right with defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.
“I don’t want to hear that,” Pierre-Paul said, via Tom Rock of Newsday. “To me that’s all bullcrap. Know what I mean? Yeah we have done it before but this is a whole other year. Each year is a totally different year. You don’t have the same guys on the team as last year, who knows who is going to be here next year. Right now we can do it for now and that is what we have to do.”
While it would be silly to count the Giants out of anything while they still hold control of their playoff destiny, Pierre-Paul is exactly right. The sequence of events that led the Giants to a title last year (or in 2007, for that matter) were unique to that year and it would be beyond foolish to assume things will just fall into place again.
