Jason Pierre-Paul lost his chance at a nine-digit contract from the Giants when he lost a finger in a fireworks accident last Fourth of July.
But the Giants kept him around last season, and he’s apparently repaying their loyalty.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the defensive end turned down more money elsewhere to stay with the Giants on a one-year deal.
Of course, that’s the kind of claim that’s easy to make upon signing while being hard to substantiate, but he ought to have been able to find other suitors, despite the numerous surgeries he’s needed since blowing his right index finger off last summer.
That kept him from a long-term deal then, or from earning the full $14.8 million last year under the franchise tag.
He had a single sack in eight games last season, and is hoping to regain the form that allowed him to get 12.5 in 2014. If he can, the one-year deal allows him to bet on himself this season, again.
