Not every quarterback who obviously supported Donald Trump is willing to talk about it.
But if the President-elect still can’t get Tom Brady to publicly back him, he at least has Jay Cutler on his side.
Via Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune, Cutler smiled when asked about Trump’s victory.
“I’m happy with the results,” Cutler said. “I’ve supported Trump for a while. I’m not going to dive into it. I know it’s a sensitive issue, but I like where it’s going.”
Not every teammate agreed with him, of course, and right guard Kyle Long feigned surprise when someone told him his quarterback from Indiana had voted that way. But Long also took the, for lack of a better word, long view about what the results meant and how living in a diverse society such as a locker room proves we can get along.
“With our system that’s in place, I think — and I’m hoping — that checks and balances and everything will work out the way it was drawn out to do so,” Long said. “And hopefully we can get together. That’s the big thing. Love one another. . . .
“You get an understanding and appreciation and respect for the things certain people have to go through for whatever reason, right or wrong. And it gives you a little bit of perspective. It makes you understand how little acts of kindness, little acts of just going out of your way to be nice to somebody can go a long way.”
With a little luck, Long is right, and we can all be one big happy locker room of a country.
