The last time Jeremy Lane was on a football field he was intercepting a pass from Tom Brady in the Super Bowl.
The play ended with Lane suffering a torn ACL and a broken arm that forced him to begin this season on the physically unable to perform list.
Lane is expected to return to practice for the first time since the Super Bowl when the Seattle Seahawks return from their bye week next Monday.
“This will be a time for us to see Jeremy Lane have a chance to come back to the practice field when we get back. We’ll look forward to that and see where that fits, and we’ll have to figure it out day-to-day,” head coach Pete Carroll said on Monday.
Lane has always been several weeks behind receiver Paul Richardson in their recoveries this offseason. Richardson also began the season on the PUP list after tearing his ACL in a playoff game against the Carolina Panthers in January.
Richardson practiced with the team all last week and is set to be activated any time. He could potentially take the roster spot of Ricardo Lockette, who is expected to be placed on injured reserve after suffering a concussion and neck injuries in Dallas on Sunday.
Lane will need a few weeks of practice to get up to speed before he’s likely to be activated from PUP. The team will have until Nov. 24 to add him to the active roster or must elect to place him on injured reserve for the remainder of the year.
Lane has been a key special teams player and served as nickel cornerback for Seattle in past seasons. Once healthy, he would compete with DeShawn Shead and Marcus Burley to resume his former role.
