Jerry Jones: Dez is “Superman,” but bone takes six weeks to heal

Maybe now that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is rehabbing from his second hip replacement surgery, he’s more hesitant to put time frames on such things.

During his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Jones said that injured wide receiver Dez Bryant should begin conditioning work in two or three weeks after surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot.

Dez is of course Superman when it comes to being physical but on the other hand we want it to repair well,” Jones said, via Todd Archer of ESPN.com.

Jones acknowledged that the bone could take six weeks to heal, which would seem to make those early reports of a four- to six-week absence a little optimistic. But he wouldn’t put a firm timetable on Bryant’s return to the lineup.

While losing a player of Bryant’s magnitude is going to be a blow to any team, the Cowboys also don’t have a solid Plan B. They’re using a committee of backs after letting DeMarco Murray walk, but only managed 80 rushing yards Sunday night against a Giants front that didn’t figure to be among the best in the league at stopping the run.

Without another receiver that commands a double-team, the Cowboys are left to hope their vaunted offensive line is able to turn their running game into more of a factor.
