The Cowboys eventual quarterback decision seems to get more complicated with every passing week.
But since he seems to enjoy attention almost as much as winning games, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday he’s in no hurry to declare what will become of rookie Dak Prescott when Tony Romo returns from his back injury.
During his weekly radio show on 105.3 The Fan, Jones said there was no need to make the call now.
“I don’t have any idea, no one does as to what the situation will be a game or games down the road,” Jones said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We don’t have any idea. The main thing is we’re all looking at the same music and we all feel the same thing. The team is positive with each other. We feel like we can make mistakes and overcome them. Everybody feels good about all of what we’re doing.
“But we also feel equally good based upon the best thing you go in the past about Romo. So we don’t have to be definitive in drawing bright lines right now.”
Prescott has led the Cowboys to a 5-1 start, leading many to think it’s an automatic that he becomes the Tom Brady to Romo’s Drew Bledsoe once Romo returns from the compression fractures in his back.
But the Cowboys also built an offense around and for Romo, and gave him a pile of money to start in it, so the decision seems far from automatic based on six good weeks of a rookie.
