Jerry Jones says Cowboys run game will be better despite DeMarco Murray departure

DeMarco Murray led the league in rushing and helped the Dallas Cowboys engineer the second-most efficient rushing attack in the league last season.

Murray is now a member of the Philadelphia Eagles and won’t be taking handoffs from Tony Romo anymore for the Cowboys. Nevertheless, owner Jerry Jones believes Dallas’ rushing attack will be even better this fall.

“When you say the entire running game - and that would be including our tight ends, including fullbacks, the entire game - we’re better. We’re better,” Jones said Wednesday, via NFL Network.

Joseph Randle showed promise as a secondary option to Murray last season. Randle averaged 6.7 yards per attempt on 51 carries and scored three touchdowns. However, free agent additions Darren McFadden and Ryan Williams have been injury-prone, underachievers during their careers.

Dallas is loaded on the offensive line with all five starters returning this season. The addition of La’el Collins as an undrafted free agent is an addition boost to an already standout group. Jones acknowledged the Cowboys are still considering adding another running back to the roster, but the strength of the offensive line should help Dallas provide a competent rushing attack.

Whether it’s good enough to surpass the production of the 2014 roster is yet to be determined.
