Jets insist they won’t force the ball to Plaxico

Plaxico Burress has been one of the worst starting wide receivers in the league this season. More folks in New York are starting to notice, which has the Jets defensive.

Jets coach Rex Ryan said he thought a big game with ten catches was coming for Burress early in the week. By Friday, Ryan cautioned the team won’t force the ball to make Burress happy.

“We’re not going to force. We tried to force it when we were up several scores before [against Jacksonville], but that’s not what we’re all about. We’re just going to hit the open guy,” Ryan said.

The Jets have already forced the ball to Plaxico too much. They have thrown the ball to him 37 times and Burress only has 14 catches. That makes him arguably the least efficient wideout in football.

The explosion just doesn’t seem there. Burress would best be used as a situational No. 3 receiver used heavily in the red zone, but the Jets need him to be more.
