Ropati Pitoitua is hardly a household name.
The only time the backup Jets defensive end was mentioned on PFT this year was to point out that the former undrafted free agent occupied the same spot on the depth chart as former top ten pick Vernon Gholston. Now Gholston’s “guaranteed” roster spot is a little more guaranteed.
Pitoitua will miss the 2010 season after tearing his Achilles’ tendon during Saturday night’s game, according to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com It’s not a fatal blow to the defense, but the Jets were expecting Pitoitua to take up valuable snaps as a rotational end this year.
Heck, now they might actually have to play Gholston, not just talk about his nuts dropping.
