Jets to sign quarterback Matt Flynn

Golfhack1396

With just one punch, the New York Jets were in sudden need of help at quarterback. Their solution to that problem appears to be veteran free agent quarterback Matt Flynn.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jets have agreed to sign Flynn to a one-year deal.

Flynn was released by the New England Patriots recently after failing to pass a physical with the team. Flynn has also played for the Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks during his seven years in the league.

Flynn became a necessity for the Jets after linebacker IK Enemkpali broke the jaw of Geno Smith during a locker room fight last week. Smith will miss the start of the regular season and Ryan Fitzpatrick has been forced into the starting role.

The Jets had just two rookies behind Smith on their depth chart in fourth-round pick Bryce Petty and undrafted free agent Jake Heaps. Flynn provides a veteran backup option to Fitzpatrick until Smith can return to action.

Flynn has made seven starts in his career. He’s completed 61.3 percent of his passes for 2,541 yards with 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
