Joe Philbin says he doesn’t see Ndamukong Suh freelancing

Not that you’d expect him to say anything different, but Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said Monday he has seen no evidence of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh ignoring play calls and doing his own thing.

While a report in the Miami Herald said Suh was complicating things for teammates by freelancing.

“There was a report Suh was freelancing. I didn’t see anything of the sort,” Philbin said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “Not sure where that came from.”

Of course, whatever Suh has been doing isn’t working, as he has three tackles and no sacks in two games. But Philbin said that didn’t mean this offseason’s free agent splurge wasn’t performing.

“They’ve been running away from him a lot,” Philbin said.

While it’s natural for teams to avoid great players, the suggestion Suh isn’t following orders is not, and will take time and better results to make it a non-story.
