“Johnny” chants start early in Cleveland

Josh McCown, Johnny Manziel

AP

The Browns failed to cross the 50-yard line in their first three series vs. the Raiders Sunday with Josh McCown quarterbacking.

So, Browns fans started chanting for Johnny Manziel during a timeout early in the second quarter.

These things happen. That was almost a lock to happen.

Browns Coach Mike Pettine chose to start McCown earlier this week after McCown cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol. McCown was injured on the Browns’ first offensive drive of the season and Manziel has played since then. Manziel threw two touchdown passes and got his first win as a starter last week.

But Pettine chose the veteran because the Browns chose McCown last February and remained firm that he was the starter. The coach has to trust his own judgement and that of those on his staff, not that of the fans. But they’ll share their opinion anyway.

Stay tuned. The Browns trail the Raiders, 10-0.
