Jordy Nelson is good to go for Week One

Nelson

With the Packers’ backup quarterback situation more unsettled than the Jets’ starting quarterback situation, it’s been easy to forget that Green Bay receiver Jordy Nelson has knee surgery in early August and missed the balance of training camp.

He returned to practice last Monday, and a league source tells PFT that Nelson will be available to play in Week One at San Francisco.

That’s very good news for the Packers, who’ll need their receivers to get open well before a makeshift offensive line yields to opposing defenders, who’ll try to sack Aaron Rodgers more than the 51 times he went down in 2012.

Whispers regarding nerve issues created extra concerns regarding Nelson. It makes sense to keep a close eye on Nelson’s knee in the early stages of camp. When he’s healthy, he’s very effective. Last year, Nelson wasn’t healthy for 25 percent of the season.

More specific information regarding Nelson’s availability will come on Wednesday, when the Packers issue their first injury report of the 2013 season.
