A thorn in the side of one of the NFL’s top offenses has garnered NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week Three.
Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor has received the conference’s defensive honor for the first time in his career, the NFL announced Wednesday. It comes after Chancellor made nine tackles and intercepted Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning in the fourth quarter of Seattle’s 26-20 OT victory against Denver on Sunday. The pick ended a promising Denver drive and set up a field goal extending Seattle’s lead to eight points with 59 seconds left.
In addition to his fine play Sunday, Chancellor starred in the Seahawks’ 43-8 rout of the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII, notching nine tackles, including a tone-setting knockdown of Broncos wideout Demaryius Thomas on Denver’s second drive.
A two-time Pro Bowler, the 26-year-old Chancellor has recorded 26 tackles in three starts this season.
