On Tuesday, Raiders left guard Kelechi Osemele revealed the reason why he had to go to a hospital in Kansas City and miss the team’s game against the Chiefs last Thursday.

Osemele had kidney stones and started experiencing pain, which he called the most severe he’s experienced in his life, early on Thursday. After trying to make it through on his own, Osemele notified the team’s medical staff and went to the hospital.

“It started around 2 in the morning,” Osemele said, via ESPN.com. “It’s pretty painful. I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. ... It was 5 millimeters, so I passed it naturally. It kind of felt like razor blades, you know?”

Osemele was listed as questionable because of a knee issue heading into the game, but the Raiders didn’t update his status to account for the illness before he was held out of the game. League rules call for teams to offer more notification about conditions that impact player availability to local media and the broadcaster for the game, but the league had no comment when asked about Osemele’s situation.

Osemele said he’s feeling well now and expects to play against the Chargers this Sunday. That’s good news for Oakland as they can clinch a spot in the postseason with a win.
