Kevin Greene walked away from his job on the Packers coaching staff to spend more time with his family.
But he’ll never get football out of his blood.
The man who is third on the NFL’s all-time sack list stopped by Eagles camp at the invitation of former coach Bill Davis, and worked with the pass-rushers there during practice.
“I’ve been picking his brain as much as I can,” Brandon Graham said, via Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com. “He’s giving us a whole lot, and it doesn’t stop when he leaves. We have to keep harping on it and remember what he said. So far, so good. It’s just all about staying consistent, master a couple rushes and a couple counter moves and perfect it. That’s what he did. I feel like I’m getting a whole lot out of it.”
Greene moved back to Florida after leaving the Packers staff this offseason, and now gets to spend time working with his son Gavin, a sophomore in high school. He didn’t rule out a return to coaching at some point, but seemed content now.
“I don’t miss coaching at all,” Greene said. “I’m doing the same thing with my son that I did with Clay [Matthews] and all my kids there in Green Bay. I’m having the time of my life.
“It’s fun just being a dad. I’m a dad. I’m just a dad. Get my son to practice, I bring him home, put him out in the field and work on some stuff. Father-son time. Really cool.”
Greene’s passion for the game is one of his defining characteristics, along with his long career of excellent production.
Only Bruce Smith and Reggie White have more sacks in league history, and he’s always taken being first among linebackers as a badge of pride, one that should eventually land him in Canton.
