Kevin Mawae, the 16-year veteran free agent center who played the last four seasons with the Tennessee Titans, was re-elected on Saturday as president of the NFL Players’ Association.
“I’m thankful and humbled by my re-election as President of the NFL Players Association,” Mawae said in the union’s official announcement. “I believe it shows the faith and belief that the board has in me and my ability to continue to lead the players of the NFL through a period of uncertainty.”
The vote was taken at the NFLPA Board of Player Representatives Meeting in Maui. More than 100 players were present, and the union announced that the election was unanimous, although it’s common for both labor and management to announce all votes as unanimous to present a united front to the other side.
Mawae was first elected to a two-year term as president in 2008. He has served on the NFLPA Executive Committee since 2002 and was a player representative for five seasons before that.
The union also announced that Charlie Batch, Scott Fujita, Sean Morey and Brian Waters were elected to the Executive Committee, joining current members Drew Brees, Brian Dawkins, Domonique Foxworth, Tony Richardson, Jeff Saturday, Mike Vrabel and Mawae.
