Free agent running back Laurence Maroney has been acquitted on a charge of misdemeanor marijuana possession.
A judge in St. Louis found Maroney not guilty without Maroney even having to put on a defense after his attorney requested a directed verdict.
Maroney was initially arrested on weapons charges in January, but prosecutors later dropped those charges because Maroney had a conceal carry permit, and no Missouri gun laws were violated. However, at the same time the gun charges were dropped, he was charged with marijuana possession in connection with the same incident.
Now that the marijuana charge is behind him, Maroney’s attorney says Maroney is eager to get back to the NFL and already has workouts planned with two teams. At age 26, Maroney still has time to get his career back on track. But considering that Maroney had just 36 carries for 74 yards last season, off-field trouble isn’t the only reason he’s currently out of work.
