The Seahawks raised some eyebrows with the decision to cut veteran safety Brian Russell on Saturday, but the reason for his departure has become clearer.
Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com is reporting that the Seahawks have signed Lawyer Milloy to take Russell’s place. Milloy had 93 tackles and an interception in 15 regular season games for the Falcons in 2008, but they chose not to re-sign him this offseason in an attempt to get younger in the defensive backfield.
Milloy spent three years in Atlanta, and played under current Seahawks coach Jim Mora during his first year with the Falcons. Right now Jordan Babineaux and Deon Grant are set to start at safety for the Seahawks in the season opener, but it may be only a matter of time before Milloy replaces one of them.
