The Detroit Lions aren’t doing anything to change their recent reputation as a dirty team. But they’re doing plenty to change their longstanding reputation as a bad team.
Prior to today’s game against the Chargers, a scuffle broke out at Ford Field, and it appeared to start with Lions center Dominic Raiola shoving Chargers linebacker Antwan Barnes from behind. Raiola could be the latest in a long line of Lions to get a letter from the league office.
But Raiola, who was part of Matt Millen’s first draft class, won’t mind if he’s in the playoffs for the first time in his career, and it appears that that’s where the Lions are headed: At halftime in Detroit it’s 24-0 Lions, and Detroit has absolutely dominated on both sides of the ball.
Matthew Stafford has been particularly impressive, completing 21 of 26 passes for 260 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Barring a second-half collapse, the Lions are heading to the playoffs for the first time since 1999.
