The Dolphins defense did a lot of heavy lifting last Sunday by providing two touchdowns that accounted for the margin of victory in a 27-13 victory over the Jaguars.
Safety Louis Delmas scored the first of those two touchdowns on an 81-yard return of a Blake Bortles interception and that score did more than help Miami boost their record to 4-3 on the season. It also helped him snag the honor of being named the AFC defensive player of the week.
Delmas also recovered a fumble, knocked away a pass and recorded two tackles during the win. He’s the first player with an interception return for a touchdown of 80 or more yards and a fumble recovery in the same game since Roy Williams did it in 2002.
The interception was the first of the season for Delmas, who signed with the Dolphins in the offseason after five years with the Lions. Knee injuries were an issue for Delmas at points in Detroit, but he’s been healthy this season for a Dolphins defense that has been stingy against opposing passing attacks all year.
