The Panthers played last Thursday night, which meant they were on the field for a workout on Monday to kick off their week of preparations for their game against the Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
Linebacker Luke Kuechly and center Ryan Kalil both sat out that session and nothing changed for either player on Wednesday. The Panthers practiced without both players and they are likely making plans to be without them against Oakland.
Kuechly is in the concussion protocol after his head injury and the ensuing disturbing scene on the field against the Saints last week. He missed three games with a concussion last year and his reaction to this one didn’t do much to create confidence about a quick return to action.
Kalil returned to the lineup last week after missing two games with a shoulder injury, but aggravated it against the Saints. Backup Gino Gradkowski missed the New Orleans game, but he’s practiced both games this week.
Left tackle Michael Oher, defensive end Mario Addison and cornerback Leonard Johnson also missed a second straight practice on Wednesday. Oher has been out for weeks with a concussion while both defenders suffered injuries against New Orleans.
