Saints backup quarterback Luke McCown became a free agent Wednesday but will return to the Saints on a two-year contract.
Per multiple reports, McCown’s new contract is worth $3 million and includes a $500,000 signing bonus.
ESPN reported that McCown visited the Colts before signing a new contract with the Saints. McCown has been with the Saints for four years, and this new contract indicates the Saints didn’t want to lose him.
McCown, 34, entered the league as a fourth-round pick of the Browns in 2004. He’s also played for the Buccaneers, Jaguars and Falcons.
The younger brother of Browns quarterback Josh McCown, Luke McCown has played in 62 games and started 10. Just one of those starts has come with the Saints, and he threw for 335 yards in that game last year vs. the Panthers.
