The Chiefs have ruled wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and defensive end Jaye Howard out of Sunday’s game at Carolina.

Chiefs Coach Andy Reid also told reporters that outside linebacker Justin Houston, who was activated earlier this week from the team’s physically unable to perform list, will also probably not play.

Reid said he needs to talk to Houston before making a final decision and said Houston had a good week of practice and had “no setbacks.” Houston is recovering from a torn ACL.

Maclin suffered a groin injury in last week’s game and didn’t practice this week. He ranks second on the team with 30 catches for 376 yards, and his loss is a signficant one against a Panthers defense that’s been susceptible to giving up plays in the downfield passing game. Chris Conley, Tyreek Hill and Albert Wilson all could see more receiving opportunities with Maclin out.

Howard has played in all eight games, starting five. He has a hip injury and did not practice all week.
