Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Marqise Lee has not met the expectations that come with being a second round draft pick during his first two seasons in the NFL.
Injuries have been a big reason why Lee has only managed 52 catches for 613 yards and two touchdowns in 26 total games with Jacksonville.
However, Lee says he’s now truly healthy for the first time in a long time and hopes he can turn that into a much more productive season in 2016.
“It’s been a while for me to be out here like this,” Lee said, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com. “This is the most confident I’ve been. My body’s feeling [great]. I’m 100 percent, so therefore I can go out and get it done.”
The injuries haven’t just been an in-season thing for Lee. An ankle injury in 2014 and knee injury last year have limited Lee’s time on the field for offseason workouts as well. Now Lee is the healthy one and the beneficiary of Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns being sidelined with injuries of their own this year.
Jacksonville’s passing attack really came together last season with Blake Bortles under center. Robinson and Hurns had massively productive seasons with Robinson tying for the league lead in receiving touchdowns. If Lee can be healthy and provide another target for Bortles to pair with Robinson, Hurns and Julius Thomas, the Jaguars offense could become one of the league’s most proficient this fall.
