Maryland running back Da’Rel Scott is expected to be a mid- to late-round pick in April’s draft, but on Sunday he was a star. With an official forty time of 4.34, Scott was the fastest running back at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Finishing with the second fastest forty time was Mario Fannin, a backup at Auburn. Recording a 4.38, the 5-foot-11, 225-pound prospect left college as the Tigers’ all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards by a running back. Fannin could have a future as a third-down back in the NFL.
Kentucky’s Derrick Locke and UConn’s Jordan Todman, both undersized scatback types, ran 4.40 forties to tie for third amongst Combine running backs.
Oklahoma’s DeMarco Murray ranked fifth with a 4.41, and Nebraska’s Roy Helu sixth with a 4.42.
Other notable times: Oklahoma State’s Kendall Hunter - 4.53, Alabama’s Mark Ingram - 4.62, Ohio State’s Brandon Saine - 4.43, Hawaii’s Alex Green - 4.53.
