Bears running back Matt Forte left last Sunday’s loss to the Vikings with a knee injury that the Bears have said is not season ending.

They haven’t said much else about it and that didn’t change when coach John Fox was asked about Forte’s status on Thursday. Forte didn’t practice as the team began preparing for Monday night’s game against the Chargers and Fox said a lot of words that added up to very little insight into his chances of playing this week.

“Yeah, you know and chances [that a guy plays] and timelines ... you know I can’t determine that,” Fox said, via ESPNChicago.com. “It’s truly day-to-day. Matt’s a leader on this football team. He was voted captain on offense. He’s definitely been that guy [a leader] since we’ve been here and I think he’ll continue to do that.”

Jeremy Langford would get the start at tailback if Forte’s unable to be a leader for Fox’s football team this weekend.

Wide receiver Eddie Royal and linebacker Pernell McPhee also missed practice with knee injuries on Thursday while center Hroniss Grasu was out with a neck injury.
