We knew Rob Kelley was going to be the new starting running back for the Redskins; coach Jay Gruden said as much this week.
The players who was previously the listed starter, Matt Jones, is a healthy inactive for Sunday’s game vs. the Vikings.
Jones has 99 carries on the season, more than twice as many as the second-busiest Redskins’ running back, Chris Thompson, has. Jones has started all seven games he’s played and is averaging 4.6 yards per carry, but his fumble problems have shown up again and Gruden is apparently tired of them.
Kelley ran 21 times for 87 yards in Washington’s tie vs. the Bengals in London after getting just 17 carries over the first seven weeks of the season. Jones has fumbled three times after losing the ball five times last year.
