Mawae’s agent says talk of a new deal is news to him

In response to a recent report regarding the Titans’ efforts to re-sign center Kevin Mawae, the NFLPA president’s agent says that he’s aware of no efforts to sign the veteran snapper.

“I don’t know where that came from because we haven’t heard anything,’' Mark Bartelstein told Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. “We’re kind of waiting to hear back from them to see what they are thinking and hopefully we’ll hear from them this week.’'

Mawae has played 16 seasons, and he recently played in the Pro Bowl for the eighth time. He hopes to continue his career with the Titans.

“Kevin’s position is he’d love to be back there, he loves everything about it,’' Bartelstein said. “But we’ll have to see what happens. All things being equal he’d certainly love to stay with the Titans. He still loves playing and is still playing at a really high level.’'

If a deal isn’t done, Mawae will become an unrestricted free agent on March 5. With a relatively low supply at his position, there’s a chance that he’ll get more on the open market than he’ll get from the Titans.
