When reporting on Monday that free-agent quarterback Josh McCown plans to meet with one team at the Scouting Combine before potentially visiting other teams at their facility, we surmised that McCown may be meeting with a team with whose facilities he’s already familiar. Like the Bears.
Coincidentally (or not), Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports that McCown and new Bears coach John Fox are meeting for a meal in Indianapolis.
McCown spent two years in Carolina playing for the Panthers and Fox, so it’s possibly just a reunion. Or it’s possibly a precursor to a return by McCown to Chicago, where he played from 2011 to 2013. In his final year with the Bears, McCown threw 13 touchdown passes and only one interception while replacing the injured Jay Cutler.
McCown punctuated his run with the NFC offensive player of the week award for his performance on a Monday night against the Cowboys. He then went back to the bench in lieu of Cutler.
If the Bears decide to move on from Cutler, McCown becomes a viable -- and far cheaper -- option.
