Following a season where the New Meadowlands Stadium essentially went nameless, MetLife is closing in on a $17-18 million-per-season arrangement for a full naming rights deal.

Terry Lefton of the SportsBusiness Journal says negotiations are “very advanced” and other companies have been told naming rights for the stadium are no longer available.

Initially, the Giants and Jets were reportedly looking for a deal in the neighborhood of $30 million-per-season. Other naming deals in the New York area have been around $20 million-per-year, so a lesser price could be viewed as a sign of new economics in stadium naming rights.

The deal would presumably run through the 2014 Super Bowl in New Jersey.
