Sometimes in the NFL, things come around full circle.
It was 25 years ago, that a Washington intern named Mike Maccagnan was sent to the airport to pick up a young safety named Todd Bowles.
So now that they’re reunited in the top two football jobs with the Jets, it only makes sense that they’d meet at baggage claim again.
Via Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com, the new Jets General Manager was so eager to get to work with his new coach, that he accompanied the driver picking him up at the airport.
From there, the the two spent two hours in a private meeting, beginning their work relationship anew.
“When we first met, it was immediately clear how sincere and very real he is,” Maccagnan said. “While he appreciates the need for discipline, players love playing for him, and I believe he has outstanding qualities to help make the Jets a competitive, winning team.”
Of course, the biggest challenge might be the two of them getting along.
The last Jets administration was undone by the mixed agendas of John Idzik and Rex Ryan, who couldn’t agree on the players needed or the importance of cap room or finding a quarterback or seemingly much else.
Getting Maccagnan and Bowles on the same page will be a key, and the only real way for the Jets to get out of the mess they’re in.
