Mike Williams: Agent asked for trade, not me; I want to be a Bill

Earlier this week, Bills General Manager Doug Whaley revealed that wide receiver Mike Williams’s agent requested the team’s permission to talk to other teams about trading for his client.

The revelation came after Williams was a healthy scratch for Buffalo’s Week Six game against the Patriots, which suggested Williams wasn’t happy with his spot on the depth chart. On Wednesday, Williams said that isn’t the case.

He told reporters that his agent Hadley Engelhard spoke to Whaley on his own and that there’s no desire on his part to leave Buffalo, something he said he needs to stress to his agent by making it clear that Williams is the “boss.”

“My agent did what he was supposed to do ... I don’t want to be traded,” Williams said, via the team’s Twitter account. “This is my hometown.”

Agents generally follow their clients’ wishes if they want to keep getting commissions from their clients, but it doesn’t sound like Williams is planning to make a change in representation. It also doesn’t look like there’s an imminent change in his status. Williams ran with the scout team at Wednesday’s practice and said he’ll “keep fighting” to make it back onto the 46-man gameday roster.
