In a press conference after the end of the Vikings season, coach Mike Zimmer wondered if he should have pushed to have running back Adrian Peterson play in the preseason after sitting out the last 15 weeks of the 2014 season.
Peterson hasn’t played in the preseason since 2013 and hasn’t carried the ball in an exhibition game since 2011, but he said in May that he felt “like getting out there and playing a little bit” in the summer would be a good thing. That return to summer football didn’t come in the Vikings’ opener and Zimmer said Monday that the call about whether it will change in the weeks to come will be made after a conversation with the running back.
“I’m going to sit down and talk to him about it and if he wants to play then we’ll discuss what we think,” Zimmer said, via the Pioneer Press. “If he goes in there, he’s probably not going to get one and out, so he’s going to play.”
Peterson said after last Friday’s game with the Bengals that he is “just playing it week by week” in terms of returning to the preseason fray, which continues in Seattle on Thursday night.
