MILLEN OFF THE COMPETITION COMMITTEE

Matt Millen lost two jobs this week.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network points out that in addition to losing his job as president and CEO of the Detroit Lions, Millen is also (since he’s no longer employed by an NFL team) off the league’s Competition Committee.
The Competition Committee, which oversees just about everything that happens on the field and suggests rules changes, is one of the most important groups in the NFL. But as Schefter notes, while it does meet in October, the vast majority of its work is done in February and March. So as a practical matter, the absence of Millen’s insight won’t mean too much.
The league will likely name Millen’s replacement on the committee some time during the postseason. The remaining members of the Competition Committee are Titans coach Jeff Fisher, Falcons president Rich McKay, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, Giants president/CEO John Mara, Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome, Colts president Bill Polian and Panthers president Mark Richardson.
