Peyton Manning-led offenses aren’t known for playing grind-it-out, ball-control, physical football. But that’s what will happen this year.

That’s the word from Broncos running back Montee Ball, who says that he and fellow running back C.J. Anderson will combine to make the Broncos a run-first team under new coach Gary Kubiak in 2015.

“I’m really looking forward to splitting carries with him,” Ball said. “I think we’re two really good backs in a system that we love to keep the ball on the ground. So we love this system. As a running back you have to thrive in this system because its what we love. It’s smash-mouth football.”

Those comments echo statements from Broncos receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who said he expects to see Denver’s passing numbers decline this season. These Broncos won’t be the team we’ve become accustomed to over the last three years. But the Broncos think they’re going to transition a team that puts up big passing numbers in the regular season into a team that wins in the postseason.
